Sophie is a curator and writer based in Frankfurt am Main with a background in psychology, art history and theatre studies by which her curatorial practice is informed. She understands her role as Editor for PASSE-AVANT as creating a platform for formats such as performing arts as well as highlighting collective practices.

Homecoming

On one of the hottest days ever recorded in the Ruhr region, a group from the Curatorial Studies Master program (Goethe University and Städelschule), which PASSE-AVANT Editor Sophie joined last year in October, travelled from Frankfurt am Main to Essen, Gelsenkirchen and Duisburg to visit the 16th edition of Manifesta, a pan-European nomadic Biennial.

Crossing the River by Feeling the Stones

PASSE-AVANT Editor Sophie has met with Echo, the Founder of the Berlin based non-profit organization CiLENS, a curatorial platform with a focus on Sinophone cinema. CiLENS first launched their program with the film series New Women, New Narrative, focussing on feminist movements in China, 2022, and held their first Indie Chinese Cinema Week in various locations in Berlin in the same year. Since then the program has continuously expanded. With a community driven approach, CiLENS created a platform to involve an international audience in questions of diasporic experiences, migration, gender as well as labour.
